Becoming a RiderCoach

HARLEY-DAVIDSON® RIDING ACADEMY: THE LEGEND LIVES THROUGH YOU

Coaching classes can be as fun as taking the classes, as well as supplying a source of excellent extra income. Rates for instructors can vary somewhat due to experience, location and the types of course taught. Training is provided, as well as continuing education opportunities, many of which are paid for.

Currently, the courses taught in the state are for the MSF curriculum. More information on these courses may be found at www.msf-usa.org..

So, if you think you have what it takes to be a RiderCoach in Indiana, follow these steps:

Do you meet the following requirements set forth by state law:
  • Over the age of 18
  • Have at least 2 years of motorcycle riding experience.
  • Currently an active rider with a valid motorcycle endorsement. (Not a permit)
  • License has NOT been suspended for any reason within the past 2 years or within the past 5 years for DWI.
  • Can you put in three (3) full weekends to complete the training course?

If you answered YES to all the above, then proceed to the next step.

  • Acquire and fill out an application from Evansville Harley-Davidson. The form may be emailed or mailed to the program administrator listed on the form.

  • Please include a copy / scan of your driver's license as well.
  • While not required, it is strongly suggested to job shadow a few classes prior to going through the training classes. Accompany an existing coach during a weekend to provide you with a behind-the-scenes look at coaching, and you can ensure that this is something you wish to pursue. Please contact Evansville Harley-Davidson to arrange a time to conduct some job shadowing. For those interested who are in the military, contacting your base safety officer is typically the best option for this.

Once the application has been submitted, you will receive an email instructing you to select a training schedule and location. Once you have chosen, the training materials will be mailed to you. These materials should be studied, and all instructions followed as soon as absolutely possible.

WARNING: Once a training class has filled, there may not be any available dates until the following year. Be sure to complete and submit the application as soon as possible to ensure that you are able to select a training date.

If you are an existing certified instructor that has recently moved into the state or live in a neighboring state and wish to coach in IN, please acquire and submit an application to ensure that you are approved to do so.

If you have any further questions about the process, please feel free to contact the Program Administrator Jeff Stokes at jestokes@bmv.in.gov or at (765) 479-2195.
